A separable connector is a type of electrical connector designed to connect or disconnect medium-voltage, polymeric-insulated cables to equipment such as transformers, switchgear, and motors. Unlike fixed joints, they are removable (“separable”), which allows for easier installation, maintenance, and replacement of cables or equipment without cutting or splicing.
Screening means putting aluminum foil and/or copper braid around the conductors within the cable and/or around the whole cable as well. The purpose of screening is to keep external electromagnetic energy from getting into the cable and corrupting the data travelling down it.
These cables are meant for use upto 33 kV, but in particular cases may be extended to operating voltages upto 66 kV. Two principal types of screened cables are H-type cables and S.L. type cables.
